Ingredients

  • 1 lb Smoked sausage or Polish kielbasa, sliced into rounds
  • 1 medium head Green cabbage, cored and chopped into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, sliced thin
  • 2 tbsp Butter or vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • To taste Salt and cracked black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1
Place a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  2. 2
Add the sliced sausage rounds and brown them for roughly 5 minutes, turning occasionally until crisp on the edges.
  3. 3
Remove the sausage from the skillet with a slotted spoon and set aside on a plate, leaving the rendered smoky fat inside the pan.
  4. 4
Turn heat down to medium, melt the butter into the hot pan fat, and add the onions and chopped cabbage.
  5. 5
Sauté the cabbage and onions for 12-15 minutes, stirring frequently.
  6. 6
The cabbage will shrink significantly and begin to brown and caramelize.
  7. 7
Stir the cooked sausage back into the cabbage.
  8. 8
Add the apple cider vinegar , garlic powder , salt, and pepper . Toss well and cook 2 more minutes until heated through.
