Ingredients

  • 6 cups Stale bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (any basic white or wheat bread)
  • 2 tbsp Butter , melted
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 2 cups Whole milk or 2% milk
  • 3/4 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup Raisins or dried cranberries (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8x8 inch square baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. 2
Arrange the stale bread cubes evenly inside the baking dish.
  3. 3
Drizzle the melted butter across the bread cubes, tossing them lightly to distribute.
  4. 4
In a separate mixing bowl, vigorously whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar , cinnamon, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. 5
    Stir in the optional raisins.
  6. 6
Pour the liquid custard mixture slowly over the bread cubes, ensuring every single piece gets wet.
  7. 7
Use a fork to press the bread down gently into the liquid.
  8. 8
Let the dish rest on the counter for 10 minutes so the bread absorbs the egg mix.
  9. 9
Bake for 40-45 minutes until the top is puffed and golden brown.
