Classic Oatmeal Apple Crisp

Sweet, tender baked apples nestled underneath a crunchy, golden, buttery brown sugar and rolled oat crumble blanket. Costs far less than a traditional pie.

Ingredients

  • 4 large Apples (such as Granny Smith or Fuji), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup Old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 4 tbsp Cold unsalted butter , cut into small pieces

Instructions

    Preheat your kitchen oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8x8 inch square baking dish.

    Arrange the sliced, peeled apples in an even, thick layer across the bottom of the greased baking dish.

    In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the rolled oats, flour , packed brown sugar , and ground cinnamon until fully combined.

    Drop the cold butter pieces into the oat mixture.

    Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to press and work the butter into the dry oats until the mixture clumps up into coarse crumbs.

    Scatter the crumble mixture evenly over the top of the apples.

    Bake for 30-35 minutes until the apple juices bubble on the sides and the oatmeal topping is deeply golden.
