Enhancing Social Features with Bluesky Integration

We’re thrilled to announce a significant upgrade to recipe.exchange’s social capabilities with deeper integration into the Bluesky social network. Say hello to @forum.recipe.exchange, our new community feed designed to bridge the gap between recipe sharing and social conversation.

Sharing Options

With this update, you now have three ways to share public recipes:

  • Post directly to your personal Bluesky account
  • Share to @forum.recipe.exchange, our dedicated community feed
  • Opt out of Bluesky integration entirely (disables likes and comments)

Engagement Made Easy

When you like a recipe on recipe.exchange, it will instantly appear as a like on the corresponding Bluesky post, and vice versa. Likes from Bluesky will also show up on recipe.exchange in real-time.

Recipe discussions are now powered by Bluesky’s native commenting system, enabling seamless conversations across both platforms. Your existing Bluesky privacy settings, including blocks and mutes, are fully respected.

Important Changes for Existing Recipes

For recipes you’ve shared in the past, Bluesky engagement is not enabled by default. To enable likes and comments for an existing recipe, follow these simple steps:

  1. Edit your recipe
  2. Scroll to the “Sharing” section at the bottom
  3. Choose your preferred sharing option:
    • Share to your personal Bluesky feed
    • Share to @forum.recipe.exchange
    • None (disable engagement)

Lexicon Updates

As part of this integration, we’re retiring our original exchange.recipe.like and exchange.recipe.comment lexicons. All engagement now uses Bluesky’s standard post and like lexicons, streamlining recipe sharing and discussion within the AT Protocol ecosystem.

Privacy and Control

We know not every recipe needs to join the social conversation. That’s why we’ve made social sharing completely optional:

  • Set sharing preferences on a per-recipe basis.
  • Update your sharing settings anytime.
  • Keep private recipes private.
  • Maintain full control over your content’s visibility and reach.

Getting Started

To explore the new features:

  1. Edit any existing recipes you’d like to enable for engagement.
2. For new recipes, configure sharing options during the final step of creation.
  3. Follow @forum.recipe.exchange on Bluesky to discover new recipes

We’re excited to see how you use these new features and would love to hear your feedback. Reach out to us @recipe.exchange on Bluesky and let us know your thoughts.

Happy cooking! 🍳
